Are pumps needed in Factorio? ›

Pumps play a vital role in the efficient loading and unloading of fluids into and from fluid wagons attached to trains in Factorio. By connecting pumps to fluid wagons, you can transfer large volumes of fluids quickly, enabling swift transportation across different parts of your factory.

One offshore pump can supply 20 boilers and 40 steam engines.

Pumps can move 200 units of fluid per tick, or 12000 per second. This is further limited by the input fluid container: the pump can never move more fluid than is available and it is therefore generally beneficial to have a pressurized storage tank directly at its input.

The fluid wagon, also known as the rail tanker, is capable of transporting fluids by rail. Fluids can be pumped in and out of the wagon using a pump, each fluid wagon can have a maximum of 3 pumps attached at one time, 1 per tank section.

Your lake won't ever run out of water. Nope, water sources in the game do not dry up. No need to worry. Just place an offshore pump & it will provide a constant stream of water until you delete that save file (or the pump is removed by you / destroyed by a rampaging biter).

Steam engines have two ports, allowing excess steam to flow through. This allows steam engines to be chained together. The current optimal ratio is 1 offshore pump to 20 boilers to 40 steam engines. Using steam engines for power does not produce pollution, however using boilers to heat up the water does.

One water pump can maximally produce 1200 water/second, satisfying 11.64 heat exchanger.

In Factorio, the ideal ratio of boilers to steam engines is typically 1:20.

A single solar panel outputs an average of 42 kW over a day and requires 0.84 accumulators to sustain a constant power output through the night (exact numbers, not rounded). It takes 23.8 solar panels to operate 1 MW of factory and charge 20 accumulators to sustain that 1 MW through the night.

If a higher flow rate is desired, pumps should be placed more frequently. Because underground pipes only count as 2 regular pipes in terms of volume, a full-length section only counts as two pipes in this table, if a pump is placed between each underground section.

Locomotives are burner devices and require fuel to run; the more powerful the fuel used, the faster the locomotive's acceleration and top speed will be. Solid fuel, rocket fuel and nuclear fuel will give +20%, +80% and +150% acceleration respectively, and provide +5%, +15% and +15% for top speed respectively.

Second, miners (in vanilla) put out one item every 2 seconds. This sets a mathematical limit on how many active mines a belt can handle : 30 mines on a yellow belt, 15/side; 60 mines on a red belt, 30/side, and 90 mines on a blue belt, 45/side.

Each row is designed to be supplied by one pump (1 pump to 12 heat exchangers to 20 turbines). So if you want several rows of turbines, you're going to need lots of water.

You can beat the game without biters, but you'll get to the end much faster than without them. It's not bad to play without them as you can play with them any time you want, but they do add to the game imo.

Fluids can be transported through pipelines, barrels, or railway. It is generally practical to use piping for short-distance distribution to machines (or barrelling, if there is need to use belts), and railway transportation for longer distances.
